About Kristy
Kristy Cobillas, MEd, LPC, NCC
Member of the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF)
An OCD and Trauma Specialist
Having been in practice as a Licensed Professional Counselor since 2014, Kristy Cobillas specializes in the treatment of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) with a subspecialty of OCD plus Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
Kristy utilizes Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and Inferential Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (ICBT), two evidence-based modalities for the treatment of OCD. Additionally, Kristy is well-versed in acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and motivational interviewing. (MI)
For clients who have OCD with co-occurring trauma, she also has experience with Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprogramming (EMDR) as well as Neural Linguistic Programming (NLP), among other trauma-informed techniques.
Lived Experience
As a lived experienced therapist, Kristy fully appreciates the difficulty, anguish, and challenges that this population faces. As a young girl, Kristy survived the mental illness and death from cancer of her mother, whom she adored. She then experienced extreme abuse by a step-parent during her teenage years. As a young adult, Kristy also suffered from severe OCD episodes. When she received an appropriate diagnosis and treatment, her life changed.
Kristy works to serve a population who, like her, can suffer for years without help. She has witnessed the modalities she uses to provide relief for many patients and hopes to continue to use them with such success with new clients.
Kristy has been in practice since 2014.
